Term 1 Week 9 – Friday, 28th March 2025
Principal’s Report

Harmony Day
Last week our school celebrated Harmony Week.
Australia is one of the world’s most successful multicultural countries in the world and our cultural diversity is at the heart of who we are. It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, from the Traditional Owners of the land to our most recent arrivals.
During Harmony week events, we can choose to wear orange to show our support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.
What a fabulous day we had last Thursday… our school was a vibrant orange; we had an amazing assembly led by our student leaders and it was wonderful to see so many parents there. During the week all students participated in making a fabulous hall display which can be viewed in the James Waters Hall. We also had Principal Excellence Awards handed out with the winners announced at the assembly. All the winners’ names are included later in this newsletter.
Thank you to the school executive, teachers, support teachers and office administration staff for making it a truly memorable event. With a special mention to Mr Josh for setting up the hall for our special day!
NAPLAN
The NAPLAN tests for all eligible Year 3 and Year 5 students have now concluded for 2025. Ms.Kimura has done an excellent job in ensuring the NAPLAN organisation was successful.
Thank you to all our students for doing their best efforts for these tests. The tests are now completed online and are no longer paper and pencil, we did experience a few technical difficulties which were overcome very quickly. Thank you for supporting your child with this process.
Consultants working at our school this year
Auburn Public School is very fortunate to be working with two very talented consultants in supporting our teachers with providing the best evidence based professional learning around the new syllabus in English. This support ensures our students are getting the best teaching and learning programs with individualised differentiated lessons in every classroom with a constant reflection on every child’s progress.
Stage 1 Sport Program
All Stage 1 classes have participated in a special sport program with Goal College. They have learnt and improved their throwing and catching skills as well as improving their fitness. This was a wonderful opportunity for them to have an innovative sport skills program around fundamental movement skill.
SRC Training Day
On Friday, 28th March all our new school leaders from Year 2 to Year 6 will participate in a leadership training day. They will get the opportunity to learn communication, problem solving, organisational and active listening skills. The Student Representative Council members will then provide a student voice to the school with ideas and suggestions of how to do things differently or new ideas that would benefit the school.
Congratulations to all the students who have been elected this year to be school leaders!
Stage 3 Parliament House Visit
Recently our Stage 3 students visited NSW Parliament House in Sydney. They met our local member and got to see the two chambers of our State Government. The students and teachers all learned a great deal about how our government works. This was an opportunity to see firsthand what they have been learning in class about Australian Government. It is a timely reminder that all our excursions and incursions at Auburn Public School relate directly to the learning taking place in the classroom. Please ensure your children get the opportunity to attend these important activities to enhance their understanding about what they are learning.
Ramadan
As we approach the end of Ramadan, I extend my best wishes to all who will be recognising and celebrating Eid in the coming days.

Staying Well, Staying Safe with Water bottles
Metal water bottles can be a safety hazard in the playground if one is accidently dropped onto toes but staying hydrated is important to keep our brain in top condition for all the playing and learning, too. Please bring plastic water bottles to school to ensure the safety of our students.

School hats are available at the school office and the uniform shop, the cost is $12.00 for caps and bucket hats.
Thank you for your co-operation on this important matter.

PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning
Auburn Public School has been participating in PBL (Positive Behaviour Learning) program since 2007. This program focuses on teaching all students clearly and explicitly how we want them to behave. The students have started the year learning about our school rules of ‘Being Respectful’, ‘Being Safe’ and ‘Being Active Learners’. The students are involved in one lesson each week and cover a range of core concepts including: Problem Solving, Communication, Game Rules, Personal Safety, Leadership and Environmental Awareness. Currently we are focusing on the core concept of Problem Solving. The students are learning about the various problem-solving skills and strategies that they can use both within the classroom and on the playground. The key concept being covered this week is using words to solve problems. The children are involved in a range of interactive and hands-on lessons to gain a thorough understanding of how to improve their personal problem-solving skills, what it means to speak kindly to others and how to reach fair decisions using words.

Parents please be aware of the road rules around school for the safety of our students and whole school community. We have had a number of parents disobeying these road rules. The Council has been seen around the school fining people for not following these rules. These fines are the responsibility of the parents and not the school. For the safety of everyone please BE AWARE, BE SAFE and SLOW DOWN! The speed limit around schools is 40.
