Principal’s Report

School Reports
Reports were sent home last Friday. They are filled with important information about how your child is working in the classroom and show the great results they are attaining.
You will see a change in the report format designed to give you, the parents, a clearer picture of how you can help your child to improve further so you can celebrate their successes with us.
A big thank you to all the parents who attended our report information session last week.

APCI News
In Semester 1, the Assistant Principals Curriculum & Instruction (APCI) team has been actively engaged in enhancing literacy and numeracy outcomes across K-6. Through demonstration lessons, team teaching and the implementation of innovative teaching strategies, APCI’s have equipped teachers with the tools needed to foster student engagement and achievement.
Teachers have successfully integrated evidence-based practices, such as differentiated instruction and the use of formative assessments, into their classrooms.
We look forward to building on this momentum in the upcoming terms and continuing to support our teachers and students in their learning journeys!

Mini Lit Intervention Program
At Auburn Public School we are committed to delivering quality interventions that cater to the needs of our students.
Mini Lit is an initiative that helps Stage 1 students to improve their reading.
This evidence informed program adopts a sound-by-sound synthetic approach to teaching beginning reading skills. Research states that early intervention ensures students develop the skills to read accurately and fluently so that they have the best chance of reading for understanding and meaning.
The Mini Lit program works in the following way:
- Instruction is explicit and delivered daily, in small groups of 3-4 students
- The program includes phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and text comprehension
- The main activities in phonemic awareness relate to learning to blend and segment sounds related to letters that students are familiar with
- Phonics is taught through a synthetic approach
- There are planned procedures to build automaticity in word recognition.
- Assessment tools are used to monitor progress.
We have had much success with the delivery of this intervention program. Many students have completed this program and have become confident readers.

Parents please be aware of the road rules around school for the safety of our students and whole school community. We have had a number of parents disobeying these road rules. The Council has been seen around the school fining people for not following these rules. These fines are the responsibility of the parents and not the school. For the safety of everyone please BE AWARE, BE SAFE and SLOW DOWN! The speed limit around schools is 40.
